Did You Know?

A side view of a street lined with colorful autumn leaves scattered along the curb, capturing the essence of fall.

Did you know that leaves in the streets and gutters can negatively affect the local ecosystem? Fall has arrived and the leaves are changing colors and falling from the trees. Leaves in the streets and gutters are the leading cause of localized flooding during rain events due to their blocking storm drains. Also, those leaves can add higher than normal nutrients to water bodies, negatively affecting fish, invertebrates, and other wildlife. You can help by raking leaves and placing them in your yard waste containers. Leaves also make great mulch or compost!
