Did You Know?
Do you know what happens when fats, oils and grease (FOG) meet non-flushable items like wipes, paper towels and feminine hygiene products, in your sewer pipes? It creates a “fatberg,” a giant, cement-like mass that forms when FOG congeals and combines with products that don’t readily disperse. Clogs in your home plumbing system are costly, averaging $400 to clear. Extensive damage averages $10,000 to replace your private lateral (connection from your home to the main sewer line). There are ways that you help to prevent clogs in your home and neighborhood:
- Dispose of all FOG in the trash; making sure to place it in a can or jar and scraping all excess so nothing goes down the drain.
- When in doubt, throw it out.
- If you see this symbol (right) on wipes, DO NOT FLUSH!
- Only pee, poo, and toilet paper belong in the toilet.
- Help us spread the word to keep the community and environment safe.
